Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal
As it currently stands in the NBA, it feels like a buyer’s market.
The Houston Rockets got a single first-round pick back for Christian Wood. Meanwhile, the Pistons got the same for Jerami Grant. Where does Brogdon’s trade value rank in comparison to the two?
Obviously, it’s an imperfect comparison. Brogdon is a point guard, and those two are both forwards. Still, it feels fair to say that his value is closer to Grant’s than Wood’s.
The compensation the Indiana Pacers receive here is closer to that which the Pistons got for Grant too. After all, the Rockets traded Wood for the 26th pick in the draft. The Pistons traded Grant for a future unprotected first. That’s a more valuable asset.

It’s the same asset the Pacers are getting here. For a rebuilding team, it’s a smart move. Flipping a veteran like Brogdon for a market-value rebuilding package would be a prudent decision for the Pacers.
