New York Knicks Receive: G/F Ben Simmons
Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Julius Randle, G Derrick Rose, 2023 First-Round Pick (DAL via NYK)
With the Brooklyn Nets being so volatile, there are a number of potential outcomes we could see this summer. We’ll do our best to explore as many as we can here.
This deal exists in a universe where they intend to compete behind Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving next season. If they’re worried about Simmons’ fit with the two, they may be interested in adding Randle and Rose instead.
After all, Randle’s three-point shooting may have regressed in 2021-22, but he’s not a non-shooter like Simmons. He’d replicate a portion of his playmaking while spacing the floor for the Nets’ two leading men. If he can shoot as he did in 2020-21, that spacing could be elite.
Meanwhile, the Knicks would probably be building their team around Simmons following this deal. He’s developed something of a bad rap over recent years, but it’s worth remembering his strengths.

This is a 6’10 playmaker who’ll qualify for All-Defensive teams every year that he’s healthy. With that said, if the Knicks have more interest in another Nets playmaker, they may be willing to offer him too.
