Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F/C Marcus Morris, G/F Luke Kennard, G Reggie Jackson
LA Clippers Receive: G Russell Westbrook
Los Angeles Lakers fans are sure to find this deal underwhelming. Don’t blame us: blame Russell Westbrook’s ever-depreciating trade value.
Permutations of this deal have been floating around the internet for a while. Some might argue that if the LA Clippers were going to accept it, they would have by now. That’s fair, only Westbrook’s deal is now expiring. A one-year flier is different from a two-year commitment.
Furthermore, the LA Clippers have upgraded their roster since last year’s trade deadline. Robert Covington will be surpassing Marcus Morris in the rotation anyway.
Norman Powell provides a little of what Kennard does, and a little of what Jackson does. They’re in a better position to gamble on Westbrook than they were before.

As for the Lakers, they’ll be hoping for a case of addition-by-subtraction here. They’re not getting anyone resembling a star player in this package, but they are getting three solid rotation pieces. If Anthony Davis can author a comeback season in 2022-23, they’ll be a better team than they were last year.
If he can’t, the Lakers are probably hopeless anyway.
