Why The Dallas Mavericks Make The Deal
We don’t really need to justify this deal for the Dallas Mavericks. It’s simple. They’re championship contenders, so they should make any trade that has them landing the best player in it.
Furthermore, Conley fills a specific need for this club. The Mavericks are light on secondary ball-handlers. After Doncic, they don’t have many players who can reliably create offense for themselves and others.
Conley certainly fits the bill. He’ll also space the floor effectively for Doncic when he’s controlling the offense. He’s a perfect complementary player for the Slovenian sensation.
There’s an additional benefit here as well. If the Mavericks retain Jalen Brunson, they could relegate him to a sixth-man role. Surely, he’ll compete for Sixth Man of the Year honors. Suddenly, these Mavericks would have as much backcourt power as any team in the NBA.
