Indiana Pacers Receive: G Derrick White, F Grant Williams
Boston Celtics Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon
Let’s get one thing straight: this wouldn’t be an easy call for the Boston Celtics to make.
Both Grant Williams and Derrick White were integral to their recent NBA Finals run. White’s ability to create his own shot allowed Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown some rest. Meanwhile, Williams’ defensive effort and versatility were key to their league-best point prevention.
This deal finds the Celtics deciding that a reliable floor general is more important. It’s a defensible position. Brogdon replicates much of what White brings to the table, while providing more playmaking and defense at the same time.
The loss of Williams stings harder, but the Celtics would still have Robert Williams III and Al Horford to anchor their frontcourt defense.

On the other hand, if they did decide they can’t spare Williams, they may still be able to land Brogdon. As long as they’re willing to accept a different high cost, that is.
