Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
For traditionalists, trading Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would be an unthinkable decision for the Oklahoma City Thunder to make this summer.
After all, the Thunder are rebuilding, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is only 23. Surely, one would think, he’s a cornerstone for this team.
Generally, he would be. On the other hand, the Thunder are doing little that’s in line with tradition for this rebuild. They’ve stockpiled draft capital at all costs. By now, they have a historic amount. Part of maximizing their plan to build through the draft may involve tanking.
Could the Thunder decide that SGA is a detriment to that plan? Alternatively, could Shai Gilgeous-Alexander be tired of seasons that don’t appear geared towards trying to win?
