While so many questions surround the Phoenix Suns, the Houston Rockets have a pretty clear direction. They are entrenched in a rebuild.

Yesterday’s Christian Wood trade only reinforced that fact. The Rockets’ return was headlined by the 26th overall pick in the upcoming draft. This team is focused on the future.

That leaves little room for the 33-year-old Gordon. The Rockets need draft picks, rookies, and sophomores. Any veterans on this roster ought to be on the back of the bench mentoring the youth.

Gordon still has too much gas left in the tank for that role. He should be offering his services to a contender. Whether that’s an adjective that will fit the Suns next season is to be determined, but if they make smart trades like this one, it very well could be.
