Collin Sexton’s perception around the NBA seems to vary. He is a somewhat complicated player.

Some will see the 24.3 points per game he averaged in 2020-21 and reach a conclusion. Without question, Sexton is a hypertalented scorer.

Still, others will question his playmaking and basketball intelligence. Furthermore, questions about his durability are bound to emerge after he missed most of 2021-22 with an injury. Even if he remains healthy for the rest of his career, can we be sure he’ll be the same player?

With this deal, the Pacers gamble that the answer is yes. If this front office does decide to put an emphasis on their budding youth movement, this is the right move for them.
