New York Knicks Receive: C Steven Adams, G De’Anthony Melton
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: F Julius Randle
For some time now, the New York Knicks have needed to find their point guard of the future. Could De’Anthony Melton be the answer?
Granted, he’s far from a traditional floor general. That’s fine: in 2022, plenty of teams count a score-first guard as their point guard. Based on his performance last season, Melton qualifies.
After all, all he did was average 10.8 points and 4.5 assists in 22.7 minutes of action per contest. At 24, those numbers point to an outside chance at stardom. The Knicks may be eager to see what Melton can do in a more prominent role.
Alternatively, this may not be enough for New York. Randle may have had a down year in 2021-22, but he was still the Knicks’ best player. Trading him without a replacement would mean launching a rebuild.

By that logic, the Knicks ought to value young players and draft capital above all else. In that event, this next deal may be their preferred package for Randle from Memphis.
