Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
This Golden State Warriors organization prides itself on being lightyears ahead. This deal would be consistent with the philosophy.
In many ways, this deal is about Draymond Green. He is aging, and his production is waining. Meanwhile, it just so happens that many have suggested Simmons find a “Draymond role” moving forward.
It’s not a perfect comparison, but it’s a good one. The Warriors could deploy Simmons as the same type of defensive-minded point forward. Granted, his absolute unwillingness to shoot separates him from Draymond. He may not be a plus shooter, but he’s willing to fire to keep defenses honest.
Still, with some roster tinkering, they could make it work. Imagine a “death lineup” featuring Simmons at the 5 alongside Otto Porter Jr., Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, and Steph Curry. There’s more than enough spacing in that lineup to allow Simmons space to operate.
