Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Steven Adams
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: G James Bouknight, C Mason Plumlee
This deal, involving a center swap between the two teams, includes young guard James Bouknight. Bouknight was selected in the first round last season by Charlotte but hardly clawed any playing time out of the rotation.
In under 10 minutes per game, the guard scored 4.6 points on a rough 34.8% field goal percentage. It’s too soon to give up on the young guy entirely, but he could still have value to a team looking to develop him.
Adding Steven Adams would be a much better fit for Charlotte. Adams’ screening was key in unlocking Ja Morant’s regular season scoring tirade – it’s likely he could be of similar value to LaMelo Ball. Adams posted 3 defensive win shares this season, a larger chunk than Plumlee’s 2.
Adams is a veteran with legitimate contender experience from his days in OKC. He would be a huge boost for a young upstart Charlotte team.

Plumlee’s arrival in Memphis might receive a lukewarm welcome, but he would have value there as well. Plumlee can fill a role similar to the one Adams is vacating on offense. Defensively, he has the rim protection of Jaren Jackson Jr. to help him out, should he struggle.
Let’s take a closer look at how this would work for each team.
