Hornets, Knicks, Raptors Are Myles Turner Trade Suitors To Watch

One of the most popular names on the trade block during the 2021-22 NBA season was Indiana Pacers center, Myles Turner. Had it not been for a foot injury that cost him the second half of the season, he very likely would be with a different franchise right now.

There were reports recently that Turner would remain with the team through the offseason, but they have seemingly changed course. The Pacers sound like a team that is willing to engage in trade talks involving their center once again.

A lot of that is based on whether or not contract extension talks between the two sides go well. Turner is set to be a free agent in 2023, so if the two sides aren’t close on an extension, it would make sense for Indiana to see what is out there on the trade market for him.

Indiana will have no shortage of suitors should Turner be made available once again. As Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report pointed out, the Charlotte Hornets, Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks are three teams already to keep an eye on.

“Other clues for potential Turner destinations: The Toronto Raptors remain focused on adding a starting-caliber center, and the New York Knicks expressed interest in Turner before the trade deadline as well.”

The Charlotte Hornets have been in the market for a new starting center for years. Turner would be a great fit for them as they have an explosive offense but are lacking a defensive anchor. Turner, who would have led the NBA in blocks per game for a third time had he qualified with enough games played, is exactly what they are looking for.

The Toronto Raptors were outmatched in the postseason size-wise. They had no one to match up with Joel Embiid, as he and the Philadelphia 76ers had their way on the interior against the undersized, switching scheme that Nick Nurse tried to deploy.

Last but not least, the New York Knicks could use a center depending on what happens with their starter, Mitchell Robinson. Robinson is set to become a free agent and the two sides aren’t close on an extension. If Robinson finds a deal that he likes elsewhere on the market, the Knicks will be left without a starting center.

The 2022 NBA Draft will go a long way in determining how badly New York needs a player such as Turner, as they have landed a center in recent mock drafts. That would likely deter them from pursuing Turner, as they still have Nerlens Noel and Jericho Sims on the roster.
