Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Julius Randle, F Cam Reddish, G Alec Burks, 2023 First-Round Pick, No. 42 Pick
New York Knicks Receive: G Kyrie Irving, G Patty Mills
With the reputation that Kyrie Irving has built of being unreliable, the New York Knicks simply would not be able to justify parting with RJ Barrett in a potential trade scenario.
Julius Randle had a down year and could be a more logical option to part with from the Knicks’ perspective. Cam Reddish offers intrigue on the wing while Alec Burks would serve as a salary filler and stopgap option. The extra value would come in the form of the Knicks’ 2023 first-round pick and the No. 42 overall selection in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Pairing up Kevin Durant with a frontcourt scoring threat like Julius Randle could offer some intriguing two-man game potential with ball screens, handoffs, and general screening actions within the half-court. Given the attention that Durant commands, Randle could have a lot opened up for him.
The Celtics overloaded the strong side often against Durant in the playoffs. Having Randle in the fold could enable the Nets to attack the defense from different spots on the floor. Keep in mind, that he was named All-NBA Second-Team in 2020-21.
