Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal

The short answer is yes. The Minnesota Timberwolves are getting enough back in Lonzo Ball.

If the Wolves make this deal, we’re assuming it’s in an effort to restructure their offense. Specifically, they’ll be looking to center their attack around Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. Taking the ball out of Russell’s hands puts it in theirs more often.

Lonzo Ball happens to be the perfect floor general to facilitate that transition. In half-court sets, he doesn’t need the ball to be effective. He’s developed into one of the most consistent three-point shooting point guards in the NBA.

His prodigious floor vision mostly comes into play in transition. He’ll be a terror alongside Anthony Edwards in fastbreak situations. In fact, the addition of athletic wing Derrick Jones Jr. doesn’t hurt in that regard either.

The Timberwolves would have the potential to be the new Lob City following this deal. More importantly, they’d have the potential to do something this franchise hasn’t done in ages: win a playoff series.
