Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
There may be a new franchise player in town in Minnesota. Anthony Edwards flashed clear superstar potential in his sophomore season. The sky may not even be an appropriate limit for him moving forward.
On its own, that’s not enough of a reason for the Wolves to move Towns. On the other hand, Zion Williamson might.
The rationale here is that, due to Edwards’ presence, the Wolves can afford to take a risk. Towns may be more reliable than Williamson, but if Williamson can get his body right, he should exceed Towns’ (already lofty) production. That’s how special the Duke product is.
Imagine the combined athleticism of Edwards and Williamson sharing the floor. They’d overwhelm all comers in transition. Surrounded by the right pieces, the Wolves’ new duo could hit higher ceilings than the team ever reached in the Towns era.
