Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Davis Bertans, F Dorian Finney-Smith, 2025 First-Round Pick (DAL)
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G D’Angelo Russell
With this deal, it’s likely that the only player the Minnesota Timberwolves are really interested in acquiring is Dorian Finney-Smith.
Sure, Davis Bertans is likely to crack the backend of their rotation. He’s a reliable floor-spacer. Unfortunately, he’s too much of a defensive liability to earn major minutes around the also-challenged Towns.
In essence, this deal is Finney-Smith and a pick for Russell. It may be the deal the Wolves would least prefer of these three options. They’re also in win-now mode: why wouldn’t they prefer an extra rotation player?
Well, acquiring the pick could be part of a larger vision. The Wolves could intend to use it in a bigger deal down the line. Either way, first-round picks are valuable. In a vacuum, this pick has better value than either Dinwiddie or Hardaway Jr.

If the Wolves are strictly operating on a value basis, they’ll take this deal in a heartbeat.
