Offense. The answer is the offense. Pairing Luka Doncic with Damian Lillard could assure the Mavericks a top-5 attack. It’s likely to give them the league’s best.
Lillard’s off-ball gravity would perfectly complement Doncic’s on-ball mastery. When the Slovenian sensation is doing his thing, defenses would now have to account for Lillard’s existence on the perimeter. That’s a tall order.
Meanwhile, Lillard provides Doncic with proper ball-handling relief. Brunson had a fantastic 2021-22, but he feels miscast as a second option. By contrast, Lillard is overqualified.
