Sacramento Kings Receive: G D’Angelo Russell
Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Harrison Barnes, G Malik Beasley
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G/F Ben Simmons
With this deal, the Brooklyn Nets arguably compromise their top-end talent for the sake of depth. Luckily, they already have Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Assuming both stars remain on the roster heading into 2022-23, getting some complementary players around them may be a priority. Whether Simmons can be one remains to be seen. For all of his talent, it’s fair to say he’s not one of the most scaleable players in the NBA.
On the other hand, Harrison Barnes and Malik Beasley should be able to fit anywhere. The former is a floor-spacing forward with defensive chops who can create his own looks when necessary. The latter is a pure shooter. They’ll both make life easier for Durant and Irving.
Meanwhile, the Kings have an urgent need to break the league’s longest playoff drought this season. Does Russell help them to that end? He does offer a talent upgrade, but his fit alongside De’Aaron Fox is questionable.
