Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Kyrie Irving
Brooklyn Nets Receive: F/C Anthony Davis
This straightforward swap has the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets exchanging problematic superstars.
Of course, they’re problematic for vastly different reasons. Anthony Davis’s body has failed to cooperate with him for two consecutive seasons.
If he can turn his injury luck around, he’s likely to resume his position as one of the league’s most dominant big men. At this point, unfortunately, that’s a rather large “if”.
On the other hand, Irving’s body has mostly held up its end of the bargain. It seems to be his mind that’s keeping him off the basketball court. In acquiring him, the Lakers would be putting some faith in the idea that LeBron James can lead him to change it.

Still, this deal isn’t necessarily perfect. The Nets may hesitate to trade for Davis with Ben Simmons remaining on the roster. After all, Simmons is most effective surrounded by floor spacing. Davis’ 16.9% three-point accuracy from 2021-22 could create a fit issue.
In that case, the Nets may prefer a three-team deal that has Simmons relocating.
