New York Knicks Receive: F Pascal Siakam
This deal finds the Toronto Raptors acquiring hometown hero RJ Barrett. With that said, it’s more than just a feel-good story.
The Raptors do this deal if they think the overlapping skill sets of Scottie Barnes and Pascal Siakam project as more of a burden than a blessing moving forward. Barrett gives Barnes a more complementary sidekick. The two could be the joint faces of this franchise for a decade following this deal.
Barrett’s ability to space the floor and create shots for himself may trump Siakam’s ability to get to the hole and create for others for this team. After all, those are Barnes’ best skills as well.
The Toronto Raptors, unlike the Knicks, should not be desperate to make major changes this summer. They don’t have a pressing need to move Pascal Siakam, or, for that matter, anyone. Still, any one of these trades ought to at least give them pause for thought.
