Toronto Raptors Receive: G Derrick Rose, G/F Evan Fournier, F Obi Toppin, G/F Cam Reddish, 2023 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2024 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: F Pascal Siakam
If the Toronto Raptors aren’t interested in Julius Randle, they’ll have to take on Derrick Rose and Evan Fournier’s contracts in order to make a deal work that sends Pascal Siakam to the New York Knicks.
Rose’s deal is fine, if not slightly generous. He’s still a very productive player in this league: if he’s not worth the $14.5 million a year he’s making, he’s only worth a few million less. On the other hand, Fournier’s $18.0 million a year for the next three seasons is downright problematic.
Still, the Raptors are fairly compensated here. Toppin, Reddish, and the same two first-round picks are fair compensation for a star of Siakam’s caliber. Toppin should be especially appealing to the Raps: he gives them another ball-handling, defensively stout wing that fits their philosophy of stacking such players.
With that said, so does Siakam. The Raptors make this deal because they’re interested in rebuilding around reigning Rookie of the Year, Scottie Barnes.

On the other hand, if they’re looking to stay competitive and merely diversify the supporting cast around Barnes, this deal doesn’t further their goals. Here’s one that might.
