Utah Jazz Receive: G Eric Bledsoe, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 7 – POR)
Portland Trail Blazers Receive: G D’Angelo Russell, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 19 – MIN)
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Mike Conley, F Royce O’Neale
If the Portland Trail Blazers are acquiring D’Angelo Russell to pair with Damian Lillard, that naturally begs a question:
Are Russell and Lillard a good fit together?
There are reasons to say no. They’ll be challenged defensively to be sure. On the other hand, they could make for an explosive offensive combination. In today’s positionless league, we’re not concerned with them both being point guards. Lillard’s off-ball gravity is certainly substantial enough to complement another ball-handler.
Alongside Anfernee Simons, the Blazers would boast one of the best guard rotations in the league following this deal. They could run three-guard lineups featuring all of them. Granted, those formations would struggle on defense, but opponents would struggle to guard them in at least equal measure.
