Here, the Toronto Raptors are mostly receiving players for the sake of matching contracts. Their focus is on the draft capital they’re gaining in the deal. This trade finds them shifting into a rebuild centered around recent Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes.
On the other hand, Collins and Walker IV should be intriguing to the Raptors in their new position. Collins has spent much of his young NBA career on the sidelines, but in theory, he’s a floor-spacing big with some defensive versatility.
Walker IV, at 23, still holds plenty of potential. At worst, he should be a stout 3-and-D guard. At best, he’s got the upside to be considerably more.
Still, the draft capital is the main appeal here. The Raptors can use it to reshape this roster around Barnes. On the other hand, they may prefer a surer thing in exchange for their star wing.
