Chicago Bulls Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, 2023 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G Zach LaVine
Golden State Warriors Receive: F Julius Randle, G Alex Caruso
This summer blockbuster would only be possible via sign-and-trade. Zach LaVine is hitting unrestricted free agency. He’d have to sign off on a trade to the Big Apple to make this work.
If the spotlight appeals to LaVine, that won’t be an issue. His gravity-defying brand of basketball feels like a perfect fit for the sport’s biggest stage.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls get a solid return for him and Caruso here. Acquiring Wiggins could allow them to stay competitive in 2022-23. On the other hand, if they’re forced to rebuild following LaVine’s departure, the New York Knicks’ 2023 first-rounder is a valuable asset. They could move Wiggins later, along with DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic, and find themselves in good shape for the future.
Finally, the Golden State Warriors land Randle and Caruso. We’ve already covered the former, while the latter is one of the best point-of-attack defenders in the NBA. Granted, he’ll crowd the Warriors’ already impressive backcourt rotation. That’s fine. The Warriors will run three-guard lineups that teams will struggle to stop.
