Making the Case: Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have an excess of athletic slashers and a deficit of above-average shooters. Despite Duncan Robinson’s alleged shooting struggles this season, he still knocked down 37.2 percent of his triples this year.

The Lakers only had four regular rotation members who exceeded that efficiency: Wayne Ellington, Avery Bradley, Carmelo Anthony, and Malik Monk. Not a single one of those snipers came close to D-Rob’s volume at a shade under eight deep attempts per game.

Robinson is also a more versatile shooter than anybody on the Lakers’ roster, save for maybe Monk. D-Rob is capable of launching from a variety of catches and angles, is constantly a threat moving off of screens, handoffs, and relocating behind the arc, and would hold more offensive gravity than any Laker not named LeBron James or Anthony Davis.

LeBron has long been at his best when surrounded by a litany of dangerous catch-and-shoot weapons. Giving him a shooter of Robinson’s caliber in his prime should bring out the best in both players. D-Rob is one of the few snipers with enough gravity to offset the lack of spacing between LeBron, Westbrook, and AD.
