The Los Angeles Lakers desperately need to concoct a way to improve their team with very few avenues to do this NBA offseason. Their newly-minted “Big 3” of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook failed to overcome the odds and prove the doubters wrong.
Their star-studded trio struggled to mesh on offense, clogged up the paint due to their lack of spacing and exerted inconsistent effort on defense. The rest of the team followed suit. Not only were their headliners a poor fit together, but so were their ragtag group of veteran minimum contracts.
The Lakers tried to flesh out the rest of the team around their “Big 3” by signing a bunch of past-their-prime former All-Stars and over-the-hill 3-and-D pieces. Their role players showed their age with poor shooting performances, failure to stay healthy and available, and slow response time on defense.
The Miami Heat happen to have a wing available to address at least one of the Lakers’ needs. After signing a massive five-year/$90 million extension, Duncan Robinson encountered a cold shooting streak and continued to struggle on defense.

Robinson’s off-year coupled with the emergence of Max Struss led to the former Michigan Wolverine falling out of Heat coach Erik Spoelstra’s favor as he’s elected to hand D-Rob multiple DNPs in the playoffs. Miami might be best off finding a trade for Robinson to shed his new contract and get some playable pieces in return, instead.
