Making the Case: Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are a team that could be looking for more star power next to Luka Doncic. This is especially true if they lose Jalen Brunson in free agency.

Brunson took over as the starting point guard in Dallas this season. He immediately made an impact, scoring 16.3 points per game. It came at a good time considering he is entering free agency at the end of the year. If Dallas is losing Brunson, they could be looking for another option at the top of the offense.

The concern here would not be what they are giving up but if Russell Westbrook would fit within the offense. Luka Doncic is a player who dominates the ball and can fill a stat sheet. Over the course of his career, Westbrook has done the same. He would have to play more off the ball, allowing Doncic to run the offense primarily

There’s some reason to at least be intrigued by Westbrook’s potential fit more than his situation with the Lakers. There is more shooting on the Mavericks and there isn’t a poor jump-shooting frontcourt player to dump the ball to in their half-court offense coupled with a non-shooting five.
