Minnesota Timberwolves
Whenever a team boasts a sweet-shooting big man like Karl-Anthony Towns, it changes the equation of their roster construction.
After all, frontcourt spacing is at a premium in the modern NBA. Most teams desire three-point shooting at the 4 spot. The Minnesota Timberwolves are different: since they get elite spacing at the 5, they prioritize defense (Towns’ only real weakness) at power forward.
What if the Timberwolves could have both?
Granted, Toppin’s 30.8% accuracy from distance last season is uninspiring. It’s still better than the Timberwolves’ incumbent power forward Jarred Vanderbilt. He shot 14.3% on 0.2 attempts per game from deep last season. He’s basically a non-shooter.

Meanwhile, Toppin provides many of the qualities Vanderbilt does in addition to his superior shooting. He’s a multipositional defender who plays hard. He’s also a much better ball-handler and overall offensive player.
He’d be an upgrade for a Timberwolves team who’ll be angling to advance past the first round of the playoffs in 2022-23.
