Golden State Warriors Receive: C Rudy Gobert, F Royce O’Neale
Utah Jazz Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, C James Wiseman
Admittedly, this is more of a Rudy Gobert trade than a James Wiseman trade. Whatever. We’re the ones making the rules here.
It’s still a potentially great deal for the Dubs. It’s one they’ll probably only take if they lose in the Finals. In that event, this could be the move that puts them over the top.
Losing Wiggins stings, but O’Neale should be capable of making up enough of his value that it’s worth the cost of adding Gobert. If Wiggins is a 3-and-D wing with secondary shot creation, O’Neale is a 3-and-D wing without it.
That’s a downgrade, but they’re adding the best rim protector in basketball. Pairing him with Draymond Green in the frontcourt gives the Golden State Warriors two of the very best defensive players of their generation.
