Oklahoma City Thunder Receive: 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 4 – SAC), 2023 First-Round Pick (SAC)
Sacramento Kings Receive: 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 2 – OKC)
If the Sacramento Kings want the Oklahoma City Thunder’s second overall pick, they’ll need to surrender their 2023 first-rounder entirely. The Thunder won’t be interested in making this deal to receive a swap that’s unlikely to convey.
Arguably, the Rockets wouldn’t be either. Still, the Kings pay a premium for two reasons here. The first is that they’re moving up two spots instead of just one. The second is that, unlike the Rockets, the Thunder won’t be interested in Davion Mitchell.
The Thunder would also be disinterested in any of the top three selections to do this deal. It’s possible. This team has a unique incentive to tank. Here, they’re likely preferring the rawer Shaedon Sharpe for fear of any of the top three prospects adding wins to their 2022-23 ledger.
Which, of course, is exactly why the Kings would target the pick. Ideally, the Magic would take Chet Holmgren, leaving Jabari Smith Jr. for them.
