This one, as the kids would say, probably feels “random.” In all reality, it’s about pairing two of the greatest basketball minds of all time in LeBron James and Gregg Popovich.
Of course, we’re assuming that both are still in the league for the 2023-24 season. James will likely be, but whether he’s still effective enough to be the best player on a quality team is to be determined. At 73, Popovich may well be enjoying his newfound leisure time by then.
Let’s say he isn’t. Something tells us he’s not itching to retire, and his mind is as sharp as ever. Let’s also assume that James is a cyborg and will still be in near-prime form by then. If those conditions hold, this is a perfect basketball marriage.
Furthermore, Dejounte Murray will likely still be in town with the Spurs. Keldon Johnson will have developed. If bringing James into the gold attracted another star free agent, this could be a viable shortcut to title contention for the Spurs.

It may be a long shot. On the other hand, the Spurs may not have to do any more than select Bronny James in the draft to make it a reality.
