Making the Case: Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers struggled in two areas – depth and defense this season. This was taken advantage of once the team began struggling with injuries for the second consecutive season.

Once Anthony Davis went down, there were not many options behind him to step in. Richaun Holmes would take care of that immediately. Holmes just finished his seventh year in the league and is a bit of an underrated big.

Holmes averaged 10.4 points and seven rebounds for the Kings this season in 45 games. This comes after he logged a career-high in points (14.4) and rebounds (8.3) last season, which led to his contract extension.

With Davis starting at center, Holmes would anchor the bench unit. Los Angeles did not show off much depth outside of its big three. This was a problem down the stretch and one of the reasons the team did not make the postseason.
