Worst Landing Spot: Phoenix Suns
Arguably, this is a hot take. The Phoenix Suns made the NBA Finals and led the league in regular-season wins during Deandre Ayton’s tenure. How could they be the worst landing spot for him in free agency?
Well, unlike any other team, Ayton’s relationship with the Suns is already compromised. The well feels poisoned here. Ayton played 17 minutes in an elimination game against the Dallas Mavericks and it was reported to be an “internal decision”.
It’s hard to imagine an internal decision leading to that result that speaks to a long future with the Phoenix Suns for Ayton.
Furthermore, this Suns team may be on the verge of collapse. Chris Paul is 37 years old. Eventually, he has to decline. It’s unclear what the future holds for this group, but one thing is certain: replacing the Point God won’t be easy.

In fact, it might be so difficult that it’s not worth the team’s time. If the Phoenix Suns are soon-to-be starting over, it feels unlikely that they’d do so with Ayton. They don’t seem to think he’s worth the money, and he definitely seems to have noticed.
