Best Landing Spot: Detroit Pistons
Speaking of teams that have already identified their first option of the future…
Cade Cunningham and Deandre Ayton feel like a pick-and-roll made in heaven for the Detroit Pistons. Considering the damage he did with Isaiah Stewart last season, it’s not hard to imagine Cunningham setting Ayton up for easy dunks for a decade in Motor City.
Granted, the Pistons have already found a solid partner for him in Bagley. Similar to the Houston Rockets, the Pistons can’t afford to think about that. They need to acquire talent and sort out the fit later. It’s more than fair to say that Ayton has outperformed his draft classmate throughout their careers so far.
Traditionally, guard/big man combos have thrived in this league. Having Ayton’s vertical spacing will open up the floor for Cunningham to run this Detroit Pistons offense.

Combined with whoever they select in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons would instantly have one of the brightest young cores in the NBA.
It’s hard to envision a better outcome than that.
