Philadelphia 76ers Receive: F Julius Randle
Los Angeles Lakers receive: F Tobias Harris, G Alec Burks, 2023 First-Round Pick (DAL)
New York Knicks Receive: F/C Anthony Davis
While many Philadelphia 76ers fans would like to see the team move on from Tobias Harris and his enormous contract, most probably aren’t envisioning Julius Randle as a return.
After all, the 2020-21 Most Improved Player isn’t necessarily an ideal fit for this squad. He’s best with the ball in his hands, and the Sixers would likely prefer it to stick with Joel Embiid, James Harden, and probably even Tyrese Maxey.
Here’s the issue: Harris’ contract is enormous. Nobody is likely to want it. With this deal, the Sixers at least shave $11 million off of their cap sheet. If Randle’s three-point shooting begins to rise again, this could be a great value deal for them.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers add Harris, Burks, and a first-round pick. While Tobias Harris’ three-point shooting is also inconsistent, he’s a generally better shooter than either Julius Randle or Anthony Davis. He’s at least capable of prolonging a hot streak over an entire season. If the Lakers hit on one, they could unlock value in Russell Westbrook in the process.
