Indiana Pacers Receive: F/C PJ Washington, 2022 Second-Round Pick
Charlotte Hornets Receive: TJ McConnell, 2023 First-Round Pick (via Cleveland Cavaliers), 2022 Second-Round Pick (via HOU)
PJ Washington is entering the final year of his rookie contract — meaning he is eligible for a contract extension. The Charlotte Hornets would move on before having to pay him.
With the Hornets needing to give Miles Bridges a massive contract extension this offseason, there is less incentive to keep Washington long enough to pay him if he’s not a long-term solution at any particular position going forward.
The Hornets would receive TJ McConnell and a 2023 first-round pick (CLE). The pick is lottery protected and if it doesn’t convey, the Cavaliers would send out a pair of second-round picks (2025 LAL & 2026 IND) instead of a first-round pick.
The Hornets would do this by sending Washington and a second-round pick to Indiana. In return, the Pacers would send McConnell.
