Kings Named Possible Free Agency Destination For TJ Warren

There are a number of players that will be available this NBA offseason whose markets are going to be hard to predict. Whether it is injuries or the lack of money to spend, there are a lot of variables that will go into the free agency process.

One of the players who are tough to peg their next landing spot for is TJ Warren. Warren has essentially missed the last two seasons because of a fracture in his foot. Outside of four games during the 2020-21 season, we haven’t seen Warren on the court since the Orlando Bubble in 2020.

What a wonderful time that was for Warren. He was one of the best players in the bubble, exploding for huge scoring games every time out. His value was skyrocketing as he was really coming into his own with the Pacers before injuries struck.

Those injuries have made his future very hazy. Warren will be 29-years old when the 2022-23 season gets underway, so it is unlikely any of the teams with cap space this offseason will be targeting him; many of them are in rebuilds and he wouldn’t fit their timeline.

Given his skill set, it is hard to imagine he will have to settle for a veteran’s minimum deal despite the injuries he has dealt with. TJ Warren is a knockdown shooter that can also put the ball on the floor and create offense. His defense has improved vastly and provides the kind of versatility that contending teams love on that end of the court.

There are a lot of teams that would love to add Warren to their team as a low-risk, high reward option. One of the teams that could show interest in him is the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings are desperate to end their playoff drought. They are the sole owners of that record now, as they have missed for 16 consecutive seasons. If they are going to snap that streak next year, they need to add some help on the wing.

The Kings have a few pieces in place with De’Aaron Fox, Davion Mitchell, and Donte DiVincenzo in the backcourt. Domantas Sabonis and Harrison Barnes are holding down the frontcourt, potentially with Richaun Holmes. A player capable of playing small forward is a necessity and Warren could slide right into that role.

Warren would be a great fit in Sacramento. He can thrive as a spot-up shooter off of Fox, Mitchell, and Sabonis’ playmaking. He can create some offense for himself, something that the Sacramento Kings are lacking as well.

The Sacramento Kings need to find shooters and wing players this offseason and TJ Warren would kill two birds with one stone. With another lottery pick on the way and the addition of Warren, the Kings would have the makings of a solid rotation to at least challenge for a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
