Utah Jazz Receive: F Dorian Finney-Smith, F Josh Green, C Marquese Chris
Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Bojan Bogdanovic
In all likelihood, some Dallas Mavericks fans will balk at this deal. Dorian Finney-Smith has developed into a great 3-and-D wing. Effortful defenders like him tend to endear themselves to their fanbases.
They’re also generally more replaceable than shot creators. The Mavericks could replace a large portion of Finney-Smith’s production simply by increasing Reggie Bullock’s minutes. Meanwhile, they’re adding the best offensive player in this exchange by a comfortable margin in Bogdanovic.
As for the Jazz, this deal may work for them no matter which course they chart. As constructed, they’re desperate for defense. Finney-Smith provides an ample amount too. Green does as well, although his inconsistent three-pointer may render him unplayable on a contender.
Either way, the Jazz could make this trade early in the summer. If Mitchell demands a trade, they’ll be happy to have added the 21-year-old Green. If he doesn’t, they’ll benefit from the presence of Finney-Smith. It’s a win-win.
