3. Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets may find themselves on the precipice of greatness. They’ve got a dynamic playmaking guard in sophomore LaMelo Ball. They’ve got intriguing young players that complement him. In fact, they’ve already got one of the best offensive attacks in the NBA.
One thing they don’t have is a starting-caliber big man.
Montrezl Harrell is talented, but at 6’8, he’s limited. He functions better in a second unit, covering either the 4 or the 5 depending on matchups. Mason Plumlee is a nice utility piece who can defend in space and has surprising passing chops. He still doesn’t scream starter.
Anthony Davis certainly does. He could shore up the Charlotte Hornets’ 22nd-ranked Defensive Rating. He’d also be the best pick-and-roll partner that Ball has had in his career to date by a long shot.

There is no question he’d make this team better. The play-in tournament should be avoidable: with Anthony Davis on the squad, the Hornets should be a playoff team.
They’d have the pieces to get a deal done as well. Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier are both expendable players with sizeable contracts. Attach some draft capital, and the Charlotte Hornets could field a competitive offer for Davis’ services.
