New York Knicks Receive: G Derrick White
Boston Celtics Receive: G Derrick Rose
This first trade is pretty simple. The New York Knicks and Boston Celtics swap Derricks.
Assessing which of the two had a better 2021-22 is complicated. Advanced metrics don’t give us a clear answer. Rose edged White comfortably in Box Plus/Minus (BPM) at 2.3 to 0.9. White outperformed Rose by Value Over Replacement Player (VORP) at 1.6 to 0.7.
Ultimately, they’re two players on a similar tier. The Celtics make this deal because they need a floor general more than they need a scorer. The Knicks say yes because White is six years younger than Rose. Everybody wins.
With that said, either side could say no. Trading players disrupts continuity and chemistry. The Celtics may feel they don’t benefit enough to bother.

On the other hand, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau notoriously loves Derrick Rose. He may value what he brings to their locker room more than White’s youth.
If either side isn’t interested in this swap, there could be a three-team deal that gets Rose to Boston instead.
