Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks were a team frequently attached to Simmons’ name when he was last in the rumor mill. Allegedly, Morey wasn’t interested in John Collins as the primary return for Simmons. Odds are, his price has since dropped.
The fit between Ben Simmons and Hawks point guard Trae Young may not be seamless. Both ultimately thrive when controlling an offense with elite floor vision. Still, the Hawks were interested before. They must have had a vision.
Furthermore, Simmons does mitigate Young’s rampant defensive shortcomings. Arguably, the Atlanta Hawks would be the ideal location for him to lean into the “Draymond role” many pundits envision for him. He could still be a playmaker in transition while operating as a roll man in half-court sets. That way, he could still offer off-ball value while Trae Young is running the show.
When he isn’t, Simmons could. The Hawk could look to stagger their two primary ball-handlers. Ultimately, the fit here may not be perfect, but it is interesting.
