Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Derrick Favors, 2023 First-Round Pick (WAS)
Oklahoma City Thunder Receive: F P.J. Washington
This deal sees the Oklahoma City Thunder parting with a single draft pick to land a talented young player who fits the roster. Traditionally, that sounds like a good plan. With so many picks, and so few keepers, why not consolidate some assets?
Well, the Thunder don’t seem to have much regard for tradition. In all likelihood, they’d decline this deal. The Hornets might too. Still, they’d each have to at least give it some thought.
Favors may be past his prime, but he’s still a quality rim protector. The Hornets badly want for rim protection. Adding a player who could serve as a stopgap starter and a first-round pick for a player who’s redundant with the rest of their roster should hold some temptation for this team.
Meanwhile, the Thunder could use a versatile frontcourt player like Washington. At 23, he still fits their rebuilding timeline as well. The Wizards pick they’re parting with has a wide range of possible outcomes. If the Wizards finally trade Bradley Beal, they may kick themselves for parting with it.

On the other hand, if they don’t, it could be well worth the price of Washington’s services.
