Why The LA Clippers Should Pursue This Deal

More than anything, the LA Clippers may need a point guard. Caris LeVert, incidentally, is not a point guard.

Or is he?

In today’s positionless NBA, he could be. In 2021-22, LeVert averaged 4.3 assists per game with only 1.9 turnovers. Those numbers reflect a solid playmaker with good passing vision. The Clippers could line him up at the 1, or just put the ball in his hands at the 2. Surrounded by Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Reggie Jackson, and more, he’ll have plenty of spacing to either score or pass out of isolation.

Of course, the Clippers will be down one extra spacer in Norm Powell. He’s one of the best three-point shooters on the squad (more on that later).

Still, this team is stacked with shooters. Beyond the names we mentioned, Luke Kennard and Nic Batum are both elite floor spacers as well.

So much spacing gets wasted without a ball-handler. Granted, this offense would still run through Leonard and George, but they’re both the types of superstars who thrive in a hybrid on-ball / off-ball role. Adding LeVert gives the Clippers someone to man ball-handling duties when either needs a break.
