While they managed to make it to the NBA Play-In Tournament, the LA Clippers find themselves on the outside looking in on the playoffs. Injuries derailed their season as Kawhi Leonard recovered from an ACL injury and Paul George missed significant time. Now, LA’s focus shifts to revamping the roster for next season.

With a fully healthy Leonard and George, the Clippers will be a threat to represent the Western Conference in the NBA finals. On top of having a premier All-Star duo, they will need a reliable supporting cast if they want to be a legitimate contender.

Retooling for any team is never easy, but the Clippers have some trade-able assets at their disposal. A recent report from the LA Times stated they could move on from forward Marcus Morris Sr. to clear space on the roster.

“The Clippers are widely expected to look at Morris’ contract as a way to facilitate potential trades to upgrade the roster.”

At 32-years-old, Morris still has something to give an NBA team. He appeared in 54 games for the Clippers this season and posted averages of 15.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 2.1 APG. Morris is also an efficient floor-spacer, knocking down 36.7% of his attempts on good volume.

Whatever team would acquire Morris will have him under team control for the foreseeable future. He is under contract through 2024 at a reasonable price tag of $17 million.

If the Clippers were to make Morris available, they’ll likely receive offers from a handful of teams. As a high-quality role player with playoff experience, he should entice any organization looking to upgrade at the forward position.

Anticipating a fully healthy Leonard next season, he should take up most of the forward minutes. Marcus Morris Sr. is a suitable backup but would be a rather expensive one. Given his value and team-friendly contract, gauging the market for him is a smart move for the LA Clippers.
