New York Knicks Receive: F Jerami Grant, G Cory Joseph, BKN 2022 2nd Round Pick (via DET), DET 2024 1st Round Pick (Conveys 2 years after obligation to OKC, Top-10 Protected)
Detroit Pistons Receive: F Julius Randle, DAL 2023 1st Round Pick (Top-10 Protected)
Julius Randle is not the top option that the New York Knicks were hoping for. He is not a strong defender, and his three-point numbers saw a 25% dip from last season. Altogether, this was a failed year, and it looks worse after a contract is signed.
If New York can find a deal for a genuine defensive threat who can shoot the ball, it should pull the trigger.
Jerami Grant comes to mind immediately. Since signing a three-year deal with the Detroit Pistons, his scoring numbers have gone up significantly. He shot 35% from three-point range during his time in Detroit and dominated the midrange. Grant is averaging around 21 points per game in two years in Detroit.
With just one year left on his deal, the Pistons could be looking for a long-term option over Grant. Randle has team control left on his contract and could help progress some talent in the backcourt by being an anchor down low.
