Why Washington Wizards Could Pull The Trigger
The Washington Wizards’ rationale here is simple. Tyrese Maxey is approaching Beal’s level of play, and he’s significantly younger. They’re starting their rebuild off with one of the younger stars in the NBA.
While many Wizards fans will be saddened by Beal’s departure, Maxey’s arrival will soften the blow. It feels fair to conclude that they’ve gone as far as they’re likely to under Beal’s watch.
This trade doesn’t force them into tanking either. As we’ve mentioned, Maxey is really good. They still have Kristaps Porzingis on the roster, as well as an ensemble of quality young wings. This trade may allow them a soft reset.
It’ll still be tough to swallow. Trading an in-prime star always is.
