Washington Wizards Receive: G Tyrese Maxey, F Tobias Harris, F Matisse Thybulle
Philadelphia 76ers Receive: G Bradley Beal
This trade offers the Washington Wizards tremendous value for Bradley Beal’s services. In fact, given Maxey’s level of play of late, a one-for-one swap between him and Beal might be fair in terms of value.
It’s just not possible financially. To orchestrate a deal for Maxey, the Wizards would be forced to take on Harris’ contract. While he’s widely received as overpaid, the expense is easy to justify here. The Wizards can imagine that Maxey and Harris’ contracts are reversed, and this deal makes perfect sense.
Some might argue, in that light, that adding Thybulle is overkill. After all, he’s one of the best defensive wings in the NBA at the age of 25.
On the other hand, this trade doesn’t see Philly parting with any draft capital. It feels like Maxey would need another season of production to prove that he’s worth Bradley Beal in a vacuum.

The inclusion of Thybulle mitigates those concerns for Washington. If they’re not interested in his subpar three-point shooting, they may insist on a draft pick instead. The two sides can quibble over details: Beal-for-Maxey is fundamentally what’s at play here.
It might be a deal that benefits both sides.
