While we’re assuming that the 46-36 Bulls will enter next season with the intention of competing, we’re also assuming that the 37-45 New York Knicks will not. It feels like it’s time for another rebuild in Madison Square Garden.
If the Knicks brass feels the same, this deal should work for them. Cody White hasn’t quite played up to his 7th overall draft selection over his three years in the NBA.
At 22, he still holds potential. He’s a 6’5 scoring guard with strong handles and finishing ability. If Tom Thibodeau can reign in some of his more reckless habits, he could still turn into a quality NBA player.
The Knicks also take a flier on another 22-year-old in Troy Brown Jr. While his offensive game has lacked polish during his NBA career to date, he’s got the physical tools to develop into a solid 3-and-D wing if he can turn a corner with his jump shot.

As for the Bulls, they mainly pull the trigger on this deal to stabilize their point guard spot. Rose has surpassed 40% accuracy from distance over two consecutive seasons.
He’d be the perfect floor-spacing guard to complement primary ball-handlers Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan. He’s also capable of relieving their pressure as a secondary shot creator.
On the other hand, if the Knicks prefer to retool with the intention of competing next season, this deal would be a non-starter for them.
