Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Fred VanVleet, G Gary Trent Jr.
Toronto Raptors Receive: C/F Anthony Davis, 2027 First-Round Pick
They say a good compromise leaves everyone equally dissatisfied. This trade likely leaves fans of both teams involved in such a state.
The Lakers surely thought they were landing a top 5 player when they acquired Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. For a moment, they had. Unfortunately, a combination of injuries and poor shooting kept the big man out of the top 50 conversation in 2021-22.
Perhaps that begs the question: why would the Raptors make this deal? It would certainly be a gamble. They’re giving up their two best guards to acquire Davis.
If he returns to his previous form, it’ll be a deal worth making. At the peak of his powers, Davis is arguably the best two-way big man in the NBA. Alongside Siakam, Barnes, and OG Anunoby, the Raptors could be a dominant defensive team.

As for the Lakers, this trade might be a no-brainer. They’re receiving two sweet-shooting guards. VanVleet provides secondary ball-handling behind LeBron James, while Trent Jr. is exactly the type of 3-and-D who has traditionally paired well with the GOAT candidate.
If this deal doesn’t suit either party, there might be an alternative approach.
