Utah Jazz Receive: C Steven Adams, G Dillon Brooks, G De’Anthony Melton, F Ziare Williams
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: C Rudy Gobert
There are reasons both of these teams may be apprehensive to complete this trade. There are also reasons why neither may be able to resist it.
Rudy Gobert effectively does everything Adams does for the Memphis Grizzlies, but better. He’ll fit right into their program with his elite screen setting and pick-and-roll finishing. He can crash the offensive glass just as well, all while offering significantly stronger rim protection on the other end.
The Grizzlies are parting with a lot to bring him over. He may be replacing Adams, but he can’t make up the production of Dillon Brooks. The Jazz would presumably be rebuilding here: they may not have an interest in the 3-and-D wing. He’ll hold enough value to easily be re-routed elsewhere.
They also aren’t getting any picks in this deal. They’ll live without them. The 23-year-old De’Anthony Melton projects as a quality rotation player for a decade. Ziare Williams, the 20-year-old, recent 10th overall pick, could be something significantly more. He’s got real star potential.
